Col. Richard Kimbler, M.D. Passes Away, Leaving Legacy in Medicine and Military Service
Col. Richard Wayne Kimbler, M.D., a distinguished medical professional and military officer, passed away on July 27, 2026, at the age of 79. Dr. Kimbler was a graduate of Hanover College and the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He completed nearly six years of residency training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Throughout his career, he served as chief of surgery at Frankfort Regional Hospital and operated his own practice at Capital Surgical Clinic in Frankfort for over 20 years. Additionally, he was the chief medical officer for the Kentucky State Prisons and worked with SHPS Health & Wellness Services. Dr. Kimbler also served in the Kentucky Air National Guard/U.S. Air Force for over 22 years, achieving the rank of Colonel and serving as chief flight surgeon.
