Iowa Man Charged in Alabama for Illegal Capture of Protected Turtles
An Iowa man, Aiden Throndson, has been charged in Winston County, Alabama, for illegally capturing and possessing over 100 protected flattened musk turtles. The charges include 20 counts of violating the protection of the species and 104 counts of taking or selling them. The alleged offenses occurred near Highway 278 and County Road 73 in Winston County. Alabama law specifically protects the flattened musk turtle, prohibiting hunting, trapping, collecting, or capturing the species without authorization. Throndson was given a $100,000 cash bond and an additional $5,200 good bond.
