Penn State Student Fatally Shot in Philadelphia During Phone Robbery Attempt
Billy Schmidt, a 22-year-old Penn State student, was tragically shot and killed in South Philadelphia while attempting to retrieve his stolen phone. The incident occurred near his family's home, where surveillance footage captured Schmidt confronting the robbers and pleading for the return of his phone. Despite his efforts, he was shot and later succumbed to his injuries at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. The phone was eventually found discarded under a car. Schmidt was a digital journalism and media student at Penn State, set to graduate in December. The investigation is ongoing, with no arrests made yet.
