Apopka Mayor Nick Nesta Outlines City Government Reorganization Plan
Apopka Mayor Nick Nesta has presented a proposed reorganization plan for the city government during a town hall meeting. The new structure aims to enhance support for residents and address the needs of the growing city, which has seen an increase of over 14,000 residents between 2020 and 2026. Nesta emphasized that the reorganization is crucial for improving coordination between departments and ensuring accountability, stating that projects are not being completed due to insufficient staffing and ownership. The plan includes the addition of two new positions: Public Advocacy and Resolutions, designed as a 'concierge team' for residents, and an Enterprise Project Management role to oversee ongoing city projects. These changes follow recent leadership shifts, including the separation of the Interim City Administrator and Finance Director, and the retirement of the city attorney. A hiring freeze, implemented last August, is set to be lifted on October 1st.
