City of Casey Launches Initiative to Sell Vacant Lots for $1 to Boost Housing Development
The City of Casey, Illinois, in partnership with the Central Illinois Land Bank Authority, is selling five vacant lots for $1 each to developers. This initiative, known as the 'Vacant Lots to New Homes Initiative,' aims to encourage the construction of new homes by reducing land acquisition barriers. Mayor Michael E. Nichols expressed optimism about the project, hoping to see new houses built by the end of 2027 to provide more housing options for young families and senior citizens. The initiative is designed to attract competent contractors and developers who can build homes on these lots, despite the low profit margins involved.
