Sutter Health Implements Virtual Review Board to Expand Alzheimer's Drug Access in Community Settings
Sutter Health in Northern California has developed and implemented a multidisciplinary virtual review board, known as the Advanced Therapeutics for Alzheimer’s Disease (ATAD) Review Board, to facilitate the administration of amyloid-targeting antibody therapies for Alzheimer's disease in community settings. This model allows general neurologists to prescribe and monitor treatments like lecanemab and donanemab, while the centralized virtual board provides specialist oversight. The board, comprising cognitive neurologists, a neuroradiologist, a pharmacist, and a registered nurse program manager, evaluates diagnostic evidence, eligibility criteria, and MRI findings for amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA) risk. The local neurologist maintains responsibility for prescribing and ongoing monitoring, with the board acting as an advisory layer.
