AI Integration in Smart Hospitals Enhances Patient Safety and Efficiency
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in smart hospitals is revolutionizing patient safety and operational efficiency. A holistic approach, termed Patient Safety 360°, is being implemented to embed safety into the design and delivery of healthcare. This system integrates culture, operations, digital tools, and governance across the care continuum. At Fundación Jiménez Díaz University Hospital, AI is used to monitor high-risk surgeries and reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). The hospital has seen a 90% reduction in post-surgical infection surveillance workload, allowing a focus on prevention. AI tools like ambient Scribe are also enhancing patient-clinician communication by automating documentation, thus allowing clinicians more time to engage with patients.
