U.S. Big Tech Firms Aid Ukraine in Developing AI for Military Applications
Global powers and major technology firms are actively seeking real-world data from the conflict in Ukraine to develop advanced AI models for future military applications. Experts describe videos of drone strikes and other sensor data as 'gold dust' for training AI. Ukraine recently signed a data-sharing agreement with the UK, granting the UK access to Ukraine's 'Avengers AI' model, which is already used to identify adversaries and streamline attack planning. This model is being tested in a project that converts buried fiber-optic cables into sensors to detect hostile intrusions at a UK defense site. U.S. technology companies are also significantly involved; Palantir has a long-standing data-sharing deal with Ukraine, Clearview AI's facial recognition technology is used to identify Russian spies, and Scale AI utilizes satellite data to track Russian troop movements and assess building damage. This collaboration aims to provide a strategic advantage in the ongoing conflict and future defense scenarios.
