NYC Mayor Proposes Insurance Cost Reduction for Landlords
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced a plan to reduce insurance costs for landlords of affordable and rent-stabilized apartments. The initiative aims to address rising insurance premiums that threaten affordable housing. The city plans to use taxpayer funds to back the insurance program, initially covering 20,000 homes by 2027, with potential expansion to 100,000 homes by 2030. The program is expected to save the city between $500 and $700 million in capital funds over five years.
