Moundsville Faces Persistent Flooding Issues During Heavy Rain
Residents in Moundsville, West Virginia, are voicing concerns about recurring flooding during heavy rainfall, with some reporting over a foot of water accumulating in their basements. The city operates a combined sewer system, which handles both sanitary and stormwater. During significant rain events, the system can overflow, causing water to back up through manholes and into homes. While backflow preventers have been installed in some areas, residents argue that these measures only shift the problem to other parts of the neighborhood. City officials acknowledge the complexity of the issue, citing four permitted combined sewer overflow (CSO) locations in the city, but note that additional overflow points cannot legally be added.
