Democratic Whip Katherine Clark Denounces Trump Administration's Efforts to Dismantle Head Start Program
Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (MA-5) joined Governor Maura Healey and Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll, along with local educators, parents, and care advocates, at ABCD Head Start Malden to condemn the Trump administration's ongoing attempts to dismantle the Head Start program. Clark stated that the Trump administration's objective, as outlined in Project 2025, is to eliminate the Head Start program and reallocate its funding to tax cuts for billionaires. She highlighted previous attempts to defund the program entirely and current efforts to weaken it through measures such as increasing class sizes, prohibiting non-English languages, curtailing developmental screenings, and eliminating health and safety standards. Clark asserted that these actions are not about reform but about weakening a vital program that serves hundreds of thousands of families nationwide, including 10,000 children in Massachusetts.
