Rochester police responded to the scene, and Mattson was transported to St. Marys Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the van was not injured in the collision. Authorities have confirmed that the fatality is currently under investigation by the Rochester Police Department. Mattson was a lifelong resident of Rochester, a graduate of Mayo High School in 1981, and worked as a painter. He is survived by his two daughters, two granddaughters, and his mother.
