Appeals Court Orders Release of Former Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin from Jail in Contempt Case

Former Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin has been ordered released from the Louisville Metro Detention Center by Kentucky Court of Appeals Judge Allison E. Jones. Bevin had been incarcerated for nearly two weeks of a 60-day sentence for contempt of court. Judge Jones granted Bevin's request for emergency relief, staying his contempt sentence due to his appeal 'showing that his present incarceration may be unlawful' and that he was not given adequate opportunity to remedy the situation before his sentence began. Bevin was initially sentenced to 60 days in jail in June by Jefferson Family Court Judge Angela Johnson for repeatedly violating court orders to provide financial documents in his ongoing divorce and child support trial. He was arrested earlier this month while working on a movie set after defying another judicial order to appear in person. Judge Jones' order does not vacate the contempt finding or relieve Bevin of his obligation to produce the requested financial documents.

Warren County Courthouse to Undergo Major Front Entrance Upgrades

The Warren County Courthouse in Bowling Green, Kentucky, is slated for significant upgrades to its front entrance on East 10th Avenue. The architectural firm Graf Studio has completed design work for the renovations, which will include the addition of two wheelchair ramps on either side of the main entrance, a new and more secure front door, and new steps made from Indiana limestone to cap the existing worn-down limestone steps. The current steps, dating back to the courthouse's construction between 1867 and 1869, have become uneven and pose a tripping hazard, particularly for handicapped or elderly visitors, according to Graf Studio head Lee Ross Dinwiddie. The renovation also plans for new lighting, with lights at the base of the columns shining upward and pendant lights suspended from the building's pediment. The entrance on the southeast side of the courthouse will be closed to the public as part of these changes.
