Florida Man Faces Trial for Manslaughter in Drunk Boating Incident Resulting in Teen's Death
George Pino, a 55-year-old Florida resident, is on trial facing charges of manslaughter and vessel homicide following a tragic boating incident in Biscayne Bay in 2022. The incident occurred during a birthday celebration for Pino's daughter, where he allegedly consumed alcohol and provided it to underage attendees. As the group was returning from a sand bar, Pino reportedly accelerated his boat through the 'Cutter Bank' channel, reaching speeds of up to 47 miles per hour before colliding with a channel marker. The collision resulted in several teenagers being thrown into the water, including Lucy Fernandez, who tragically drowned. Prosecutors argue that Pino was familiar with the channel and had previously navigated past the marker, which was painted for visibility. The trial has garnered significant attention, with jury selection being a lengthy process due to potential jurors' prior exposure to media coverage of the case.
