Officials stated that significant snowfall had occurred throughout the day, and the couple lacked overnight gear, with their clothing soaked and surrounded by 1 to 2 feet of snow. Weather conditions prevented helicopter rescue attempts that night. Chelan County Mountain Rescue personnel reached the couple around 3:30 a.m. on September 14, finding Claborn deceased and her husband suffering from severe hypothermia. A GoFundMe titled 'In Loving Memory of Sybil' has been created, and the cause and manner of her death remain under investigation.
