AI Advances Predictive Medicine for Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Optimization
Artificial intelligence (AI) is significantly transforming predictive medicine by enabling earlier disease diagnosis, forecasting disease progression, and optimizing personalized treatment plans. Genetic testing, combined with AI, helps determine an individual's risk for various illnesses, allowing for proactive interventions. AI models have demonstrated high accuracy in predicting diseases like type 1 and type 2 diabetes, with rates of 78% and 93% respectively. Researchers at Penn State College of Medicine have developed a genetic prediction score (GPS) that is up to 1,000% more accurate than traditional methods for autoimmune disease progression. This GPS, trained on electronic health records (EHRs) and genetic studies, can detect antibodies for rheumatoid arthritis five years before symptom onset. Similarly, Boston University researchers have created an AI model to predict Alzheimer's disease by analyzing memory scores, brain scans, age, health history, and genetic information, even identifying affected...
