Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson Indicted on 30 Counts Amid Security Breach Fallout
Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson has been indicted on 30 counts, including malfeasance in office, conspiracy, and obstruction of justice. The charges are linked to a major security breach in May 2025, when 10 inmates escaped from the Orleans Justice Center. The indictment, issued by a special grand jury, alleges that Hutson's misconduct spanned nearly her entire four-year term. Chief Financial Officer Bianka Brown was also indicted on 20 felony counts. Both Hutson and Brown have been ordered to surrender their passports and are prohibited from leaving Louisiana. The charges come just days before Hutson is set to leave office, with Michelle Woodfork elected as her successor.
