Congressman Cory Mills Faces Financial and Political Challenges Amid Re-Election Bid
Central Florida Congressman Cory Mills is experiencing significant challenges in his re-election campaign due to dwindling campaign funds and growing opposition within his own party. Mills, who is under investigation by a Congressional ethics committee and reportedly by the U.S. Department of Justice, still holds an endorsement from President Trump. Despite this, his fundraising efforts have been lackluster, raising less than $16,000 in July, with only $67,644 remaining in his campaign coffers. In contrast, his Republican opponent, Ryan Elijah, has raised $54,293 and has $186,154 available. Mills' tenure in Congress has been marked by controversy, including accusations of misrepresenting his military record and engaging in unethical business dealings, which he denies. Political scientists suggest that Mills' financial struggles could pose a risk to his re-election, especially if he becomes the Republican nominee.
