Wisconsin Unveils Statewide Gravel Cycling Network to Boost Tourism and Recreation
Wisconsin has launched a statewide network of gravel cycling routes known as Wisconsin Gravel, aimed at connecting communities and landscapes across the state. This initiative, announced by Visit Wausau, features the Granite Belt, a premier riding region in north central Wisconsin with over 1,000 miles of distinctive red granite roads and 16 established routes. The network integrates existing rural infrastructure such as dairy roads, logging routes, and rails-to-trails corridors into a cohesive system that promotes tourism and supports local economies. Tim White, executive director of Visit Wausau, emphasized the goal of transforming Wisconsin into a top gravel biking destination in the United States, offering riders authentic experiences and connections to local history and culture.
