France Evacuates 20,000 as Wildfires Spread in Gironde Region
In the Gironde region of southwestern France, approximately 20,000 people have been evacuated due to spreading wildfires. The fires have destroyed over 3,400 hectares of land around the Bay of Arcachon. Local officials have reported that the evacuations, which include 10,000 tourists, are proceeding calmly. The region is under a red alert, with roads and leisure sites in exposed forest areas closed. The fires are part of a series of wildfires affecting Europe, exacerbated by prolonged heatwaves. Firefighters are working tirelessly to control the blaze, with no injuries reported so far.
