New York Faces $74 Million Loss Over Immigrant Truckers' Licenses
New York is set to lose over $73.5 million in federal funding due to its failure to revoke nearly 33,000 commercial driver's licenses issued to immigrants, which were deemed questionable by the Transportation Department. The audit revealed significant issues with these licenses, including validity beyond the authorized stay of immigrants in the country. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has emphasized accountability for states failing to address unqualified foreign drivers. While New York officials defend their practices, the federal government has warned other states, such as California, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and North Carolina, of potential funding losses if they do not comply with federal regulations.
