Lakewood-Busti Police Seek Grant for Traffic Cameras Near Walmart to Enhance Safety
The Lakewood-Busti Police Department is planning to apply for a grant from the $75 million Law Enforcement Technology Grant program announced by Governor Kathy Hochul. This initiative aims to improve technology and modernize equipment for police departments and sheriffs' offices across New York. The department intends to use the grant to install cameras at the intersection of Fairmount and Fairdale avenues, a high-traffic area near the Walmart Supercenter, which is a frequent site of incidents and accidents. The grant could also fund a new speed trailer with a message board, a drone, and other technological upgrades. The program, administered by the state Division of Criminal Justice Services, offers funding for various equipment, including body-worn cameras, drones, and traffic safety tools. The Lakewood-Busti Police Department is one of 500 agencies eligible to apply, with potential funding ranging from $100,000 to $6 million, depending on the size of the department.
