Boone County Extends Workforce Agreement to Enhance Job Training Through 2031
Boone County has extended an interlocal agreement with seven other counties in Northern Kentucky to continue accessing federal job training and employment funds until 2031. This decision was made by the fiscal court, which unanimously approved the extension of the agreement that ensures continued access to Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funding. The agreement, which was last extended in 2021, was set to expire on June 30, 2026. Correy Eimer, associate director of workforce development at the Northern Kentucky Area Development District, emphasized the importance of this agreement for maintaining federal funding. The Northern Kentucky Workforce Development Board, which oversees the distribution of these funds, serves an eight-county region including Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties. Boone County, home to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and several key industrial and logistics companies, plays a significant role as an employment hub in the region.
