Georgia Police Officer on Leave After Shooting Family's Pet Donkey During Missing Child Search
A Georgia police officer has been placed on administrative leave following the fatal shooting of a family's pet donkey, named 'HeeHaw,' in Cedartown, Georgia. The incident occurred early Sunday morning at Elsberry Riding and Farm while officers were searching for a missing child. According to Cedartown police Chief Jamie Newsom, the officer shot and killed the donkey. Hannah Israel, the owner, stated she had raised 'HeeHaw' from one hour old and considered him her 'kid.' The police chief has not disclosed the specific circumstances that led to the shooting but confirmed the existence of body camera footage, which he has reviewed. Israel believes 'HeeHaw's' friendly nature, where he would run up to people and bray, may have inadvertently put him in harm's way. The missing child was later located at a church near the pasture where the shooting took place. The Georgia Department of Agriculture Law Enforcement division is currently investigating the incident.
