Tampa Man Wins $10,000 in Florida Python Challenge for Removing 96 Pythons
Tom Rahill, a Tampa resident, won the $10,000 prize in the Florida Python Challenge by removing 96 Burmese pythons from the Everglades National Park. The annual event, organized by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, aims to control the population of invasive Burmese pythons, which threaten native wildlife in the Everglades. This year's challenge saw 907 participants from 30 states and overseas, resulting in the removal of 280 pythons. The longest python captured measured nearly 17 feet. The event raises public awareness and encourages active participation in wildlife conservation efforts.
