Broken Arrow Residents File Lawsuit to Halt 160-Home Greenbelt Development
Residents of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, have initiated legal action in Tulsa County District Court to prevent the development of over 160 single-family homes on a 49-acre greenbelt. The lawsuit, filed by resident Charles Rowland, alleges that the sale of the property by Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) to Calara Land OK, a subsidiary of Lennar Corp., violates a 2023 franchise agreement. This agreement reportedly restricts PSO from engaging in business activities within the city beyond the transmission and distribution of electric power. The Broken Arrow Planning Commission and City Council had previously approved a rezoning request for the project in June. Following an earth change permit approval on July 30, bulldozers began clearing the land, including felling trees, which prompted the residents' legal challenge.
