Daily Mail Accused of Stalking and Misidentifying Woman as Former White Stripes Drummer Meg White
The Daily Mail newspaper is facing accusations of stalking and misidentifying a woman in Detroit as former White Stripes drummer Meg White. The British tabloid allegedly tailed and photographed a woman, then published an article and pictures claiming to have found the 'reclusive female music megastar' and revealing her 'secret new life.' However, multiple sources, including a music label executive close to White and the photographed woman, confirmed to The Guardian that the Mail photographed a completely different person who is a friend of White's. The Mail's article, written by senior reporter Joe Hutchison, boasted of publishing the first public images of White in 17 years. The newspaper reportedly removed the article and photographs from its website last week without issuing a correction or explanation. The woman photographed reportedly told the Mail it was mistaken when approached, but the paper concluded she was White based on her polite 'thank you' after a compliment about The White Stripes' music.
