Blue Shield of California Expands Virtual Blue Program to Over 410,000 Members by 2027
Blue Shield of California is significantly expanding its Virtual Blue program, aiming to more than double its enrollment to over 410,000 members by January 2027. This expansion will make Virtual Blue available to an additional 260,000 members, including those in fully insured PPO plans for employers with 101 to 3,000 employees (approximately 200,000 members) and 60,000 individuals in selected Individual and Family Plans. The program offers $0 out-of-pocket costs for qualifying virtual visits, encompassing primary care, behavioral healthcare, specialist consultations, and urgent care. Key features include same-day or next-day primary care appointments, significantly faster than the average 10-day wait for in-person care in California, and extended hours of operation.
