Utah Apartment Fire: Cat Survives Three Days in Closet, Reunited with Owner
A cat named Toast survived a devastating fire at the North Union Apartments in Midvale, Utah, by hiding in a closet for over three days. The fire, which began early on a Friday morning, destroyed the five-level complex, displacing hundreds of residents. Despite the extensive damage and the challenging conditions, including smoke and water from firefighting efforts, Toast was found alive by firefighters more than 72 hours after the blaze started. The cat was reunited with his owner, Ryder Mathis, who expressed immense gratitude for the rescue efforts. The fire, likely caused by a mechanical issue, required significant resources to extinguish, and many residents have been temporarily relocated to Airbnb homes through a partnership with the United Way of Salt Lake.
