Florida Congressional Delegation Pushes for Space Coast as Home for New U.S. Space Academy
Florida's congressional delegation is actively advocating for the Space Coast to be designated as the location for the newly announced U.S. Space Academy. Senator Ashley Moody plans to introduce legislation to officially designate the Cape Canaveral area as the academy's home. This initiative is supported by Representative Mike Haridopolos, Chair of the House Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee, who plans to introduce companion legislation with Representative Donalds. The proposed academy, announced by President Trump, aims to train future astronauts, engineers, operators, entrepreneurs, and military personnel for America's space programs. The delegation argues that Florida already possesses the necessary infrastructure, universities, and a skilled aerospace workforce to support such an institution. This effort is part of a broader strategy by Florida leaders to enhance the state's role in federal space operations, including supporting the U.S. Space Force, NASA, and the commercial spaceflight industry.
