Vehicle Crash Causes High-Pressure Gas Line Leak in Fairfax County, Virginia
A single-vehicle crash in Fairfax County, Virginia, on Wednesday morning caused a high-pressure gas line to leak, leading to road closures and evacuations. The incident occurred around 10:55 a.m. in the area of Ox Road and Burke Center Parkway in Fairview. The driver of the vehicle struck a regulator station that services a 12-inch gas line, resulting in the leak. Fire department officials quickly responded, and crews were able to secure the line by locating the valve to reduce pressure and stop the leak by 1:30 p.m. The driver was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Following the crash, a strong smell of gas permeated the area, prompting authorities to evacuate a nearby elementary school, shopping center, daycare facility, church, and animal hospital. The initial evacuation zone of 300 feet was extended to 500 feet as a precautionary measure.
