Cyberattack on Canvas Disrupts College Final Exams, Affecting Students Nationwide
A cyberattack on Canvas, an online platform used by schools and universities for managing exams and coursework, has caused significant disruptions during the final exam period. The attack, claimed by the hacking group ShinyHunters, led to an outage that affected the ability of students and instructors to access essential educational resources. Instructure, the parent company of Canvas, reported that the platform was restored for most users by late Thursday. However, some institutions, such as the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth and the University of Illinois, postponed exams to allow students to access course materials. The breach reportedly involved student ID numbers, email addresses, and other personal information, though no financial data was compromised.
