Bangladesh Garment Industry Signs Green Industrialization Agreement with GIZ
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the German international cooperation agency GIZ to promote 'green' industrialization within the garment industry. This agreement aims to enhance the global competitiveness of Bangladesh's garment sector by aligning with emerging European Union market mandates. The collaboration will focus on supply chain due diligence, traceability, circularity, and decarbonization. Factories will receive technical guidance on advanced chemical management, pollution reduction schemes, and maintaining international environmental standards. Additionally, the initiative will improve energy efficiency, conduct regular energy audits, and provide technical training to build a skilled renewable energy workforce, emphasizing increased participation of women in engineering and management roles.
