South Carolina Department of Public Health Highlights Initiatives During National Public Health Week
The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) is observing National Public Health Week from April 6-12, focusing on the theme 'Ready. Set. Action.' This annual event aims to recognize public health contributions and address key health issues. Dr. Edward Simmer, interim director of DPH, emphasized the agency's commitment to connecting individuals and communities with necessary services and tools for a healthier future. Last year, DPH collaborated with the Alliance for a Healthier South Carolina and other partners to launch the 2025-2030 South Carolina State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP), a five-year roadmap for health improvement. The SHIP aims to translate population-level health data into actionable strategies to enhance the well-being of South Carolinians.
