Middle East and North Africa Police Chiefs Convene with Interpol to Address Evolving Regional Crime Threats
Police leaders from across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region gathered in Cairo for a two-day INTERPOL meeting to discuss strengthening international police cooperation and coordinating responses to regional security challenges. The discussions focused on transnational organized crime, national security priorities, and the jurisdictional challenges posed by emerging threats. A central theme was the enhancement of regional coordination and the adoption of INTERPOL's new Operational Task Force Model for a more agile and integrated response to criminal networks. Key agenda items included disrupting illicit supply chains involved in drug trafficking, human trafficking, and migrant smuggling, as well as combating money laundering and illicit finance. Delegates also addressed the rise of 'crime-as-a-service,' ransomware, and other cyber-enabled threats targeting the region's digital infrastructure, with a briefing on the successful Operation Ramz, which led to 201 arrests across 13 countries.
