Wildfires in Northern Nevada Burn Nearly 100,000 Acres, Prompting Evacuations
Two major wildfires, the Bug Fire and the Stallion Fire, are burning across northern Washoe County, Nevada, with a combined area of nearly 100,000 acres as of August 12, 2026. Both fires remain at 0% containment. Evacuation orders and warnings have been issued for multiple areas, including Cold Springs, Nixon, and Spanish Springs. Over 5,200 residents have been evacuated, and several structures have been lost. Firefighters are working to establish control lines with the help of air tankers, helicopters, and ground crews. Power outages are affecting parts of the region, and road closures are in place, including portions of U.S. 395 and State Routes 445 and 446. A flash flood watch is also in effect near older burn scars, and thunderstorms with gusty winds are forecasted, potentially complicating firefighting efforts.
