Vandals in Kansas City, Missouri, caused a power outage affecting approximately 1,800 Evergy customers by stealing cables from utility poles. The theft led to a fire, waking residents with loud explosions and causing significant disruption. The incident highlights the dangers of cable theft, which not only poses risks to the perpetrators but also endangers the community by compromising essential services. Evergy and AT&T have reported an increase in such thefts, particularly targeting copper cables, and are offering rewards for information leading to arrests.
