Radio Caroline Breaches Ofcom Rules with False Announcement of King Charles's Death
Radio Caroline has been found in violation of Ofcom broadcasting rules after mistakenly announcing the death of King Charles III. The incident occurred during the Barry Marsh Show on May 19, when three pre-recorded announcements falsely stated that the King had died. These announcements were followed by the national anthem and 16 minutes of silence on DAB+, while AM listeners heard backup music. The error was attributed to a staff member who accessed pre-recorded obituary files out of curiosity, which inadvertently cut off the presenter's remote stream and put the announcements on air. Ofcom's ruling highlighted the breach of Rule 5.1, which requires news to be reported with due accuracy, and Rule 5.2, which mandates that significant mistakes be corrected quickly. A correction and apology were broadcast 30 minutes after the incident.
