No Corn Planting Progress in Five Key U.S. States as of Mid-April 2026
As of mid-April 2026, the USDA's latest Crop Progress report indicates that corn planting has not commenced in five major corn-producing states: Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, and South Dakota. This lack of progress is attributed to unfavorable weather conditions, including wet soil and above-average rainfall, which have hindered fieldwork. In Michigan, only two days in the past two weeks were suitable for field activities, leading to concerns about falling behind typical planting schedules. Similarly, in Minnesota, less than three days were suitable for fieldwork, with agronomists noting that soil conditions are not yet conducive to planting. Despite these delays, the nationwide corn planting progress is slightly ahead of the five-year average, with 5% of the crop planted compared to the average of 4%.
