Two U.S. Service Members Missing After Military Exercises in Morocco
Two U.S. Army soldiers are missing in southwestern Morocco following their participation in the African Lion military exercises. According to the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), the soldiers went missing during a recreational hike near the Cap Draa Training Area, a mountainous region near the Atlantic Ocean. The incident occurred after the day's exercises had concluded. A search and rescue operation involving helicopters, ships, mountain rescue units, and divers has been launched by U.S., Moroccan, and other participating countries. The African Lion exercise, which involves over 7,000 personnel from more than 30 nations, is the largest U.S. annual joint military exercise on the continent.
