President Trump has nominated Dr. Nicole Saphier, a radiologist and former Fox News Channel contributor, for the position of surgeon general. This marks Trump's third attempt to fill the role, following the withdrawal of his previous nominee, Dr. Janette Nesheiwat, due to scrutiny over her medical credentials. Dr. Saphier, who directs breast imaging at Memorial Sloan Kettering Monmouth, is expected to be more acceptable to Republican lawmakers compared to Trump's second nominee, Dr. Casey Means. The nomination comes as Trump seeks to solidify support among Republican lawmakers, particularly those on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, which plays a crucial role in the confirmation process.
