Dallas Clinical Trial Explores New ALS Treatment Targeting Immune System
A clinical trial in Dallas is testing a new treatment for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) that targets the immune system, offering hope to patients and doctors. The trial, known as ALSTARS, is evaluating an investigational therapy called COYA 302, which aims to improve the function of regulatory T cells. These immune cells help control inflammation, which is believed to contribute to the progression of ALS. The trial is being conducted at Texas Neurology in Dallas and other sites across the U.S. and Canada. Participants are randomly assigned to receive COYA 302 or a placebo for 24 weeks, with an extension phase for those who complete the initial study. The study's goal is to assess the safety and effectiveness of the treatment, which represents a novel approach by focusing on the immune system rather than directly on nerve cells.
