China's Mumbai Consul General Advocates for Easing Trade Curbs to Restore Bilateral Ties
The Consul General of China for the Mumbai region, Qin Jie, has called for the restoration of the 'Hindi-Chini Bhai Bhai' spirit to improve bilateral relations between India and China. Speaking at the Advantage Vidarbha Khasdar Audyogic Mahotsav, Jie emphasized the need to ease trade restrictions, particularly those imposed by India's Press Note 3, which requires government approval for foreign direct investments from neighboring countries like China. This policy was introduced to prevent opportunistic takeovers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Jie expressed hope that these restrictions would be relaxed soon, allowing business ties to return to pre-pandemic levels. He also highlighted the importance of cultural exchanges and faster visa processing to enhance people-to-people interactions. A recent collaboration between a Chinese firm and an Indian manganese mining company in Nagpur was cited as a successful example of bilateral cooperation.
