NDOT Reports Success in Wrong-Way Driver Alert System with Majority Self-Correcting
The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has released new data indicating that 21 out of 28 drivers who encountered wrong-way warning signs in Southern Nevada successfully self-corrected their course. These figures were gathered from the Wrong Way Driver Alert Systems, which were operational from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025. The system is designed to alert drivers who are about to enter a highway in the wrong direction, prompting them to turn around. The data shows that the majority of drivers responded to the flashing signs, potentially preventing accidents. The locations monitored included major highways such as I-15 and U.S. 95, with varying results across different times of the day. Andrea Raney, who lost her granddaughter to a wrong-way driver, expressed hope that these systems are making a difference in preventing similar tragedies.
