NASA's Modified Boeing 777 Prepares for Airborne Science Mission
NASA's Boeing 777-200ER, previously a Japan Airlines aircraft, has undergone significant modifications to serve as an airborne laboratory for scientific research. The aircraft, now part of NASA's fleet, has been structurally upgraded by L3Harris Technologies and Yulista in Waco, Texas. It is set to embark on its inaugural science mission in January 2027, focusing on severe winter weather conditions across North America, Greenland, Europe, the North Atlantic, and the Arctic Ocean. The mission, named 'NURTURE', aims to collect data to improve understanding of Earth's climate systems.
