Port Authority Responds to NYC Tunnel Debris Incident, Ensures Safety Measures
A significant safety incident occurred on the Trans Manhattan Expressway in New York City when a large piece of debris fell from the ceiling of a tunnel, narrowly missing a commuter's vehicle. John Toledo, a city Department of Environmental Protection employee, was driving through the tunnel when the debris struck his car, causing significant damage. The tunnel, located under the Bridge Apartments in Washington Heights, connects the George Washington Bridge to the Cross Bronx Expressway. Toledo shared dashcam footage of the incident online, highlighting the potential danger to other drivers. The Port Authority, responsible for the roadway, has since inspected and repaired the damaged area, confirming that a localized ceiling component had failed.
