Seagrass Restoration Efforts in Wales Highlight Environmental and Economic Benefits
Project Seagrass is undertaking a challenging initiative to restore seagrass meadows in the UK, particularly around Penrhyn beach in Ynys Môn, Wales. These underwater meadows, crucial for marine life and environmental health, have seen a 92% decline over the past century. The project involves planting millions of seagrass seeds by hand, aiming to restore 10 hectares over several years. Volunteers, including local youth, are actively participating in the restoration efforts, which are inspired by successful projects in the Netherlands.
