Chattanooga Residents Oppose Lupton City Historic District Designation Over Cost and Property Rights
Residents of Lupton City in Chattanooga, Tennessee, are pushing back against a proposal to designate their neighborhood as a locally protected historic district. The Chattanooga Historic Zoning Commission recently heard arguments for and against the plan, ultimately delaying a vote for 60 days. Lupton City, originally known as Luptonville, developed in the early 1920s around Dixie Spinning Mills and features hundreds of homes, a school, gym, swimming pool, post office, movie house, company store, and church.
