Instructure Faces Cyberattack by ShinyHunters, Disrupting Canvas Platform for U.S. Schools
Instructure, the company behind the Canvas learning management system, has been targeted by the hacking group ShinyHunters, leading to a significant security incident. This breach has affected numerous colleges and universities across the United States, including the University of Michigan, Harvard University, and Pennsylvania State University. The attack disrupted classes, coursework, and exams during the critical spring finals week. ShinyHunters has claimed responsibility for the breach, which compromised data from over 275 million individuals globally. In response, Instructure temporarily took the Canvas platform offline for maintenance and investigation. The company has since restored access for most users, but the incident has raised concerns about data security and the vulnerability of educational platforms.
