European Commission's Spending on Consultants Raises Concerns Over Green Deal Implementation
The European Commission, under the leadership of President Ursula von der Leyen, has significantly increased its spending on climate and energy consultancies, raising concerns about the efficiency of the Green Deal. According to reports, the Commission's expenditure on external advisers has surged by 433% since 2014, reaching 1.45 billion euros in 2024. Of this, 127 million euros were allocated to consultants for the Green Deal, a climate initiative aimed at achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Critics argue that the reliance on consultants indicates potential issues with the project's execution, as the Green Deal has been associated with rising electricity prices and economic challenges within the EU.
